MY STORY

I'm on a mission to leave a mark and make an impact. That's why I chose a profession that allows me to use my natural talents as a communicator, storyteller, and creative to reach people, inspire them, and move them to take action.

I began my career as a journalist and graphic designer for StreetWise, a nonprofit that helps homeless men and women get access to employment resources and social services. I took on marketing and public relations projects, because I simply wanted to bring awareness to the cause. It was in this role when I realized the powerful impact that strategic marketing and communications could have. At that moment, I knew this was what I wanted to do.

To take my skills to the next level, I attended Loyola University Chicago's Quinlan School of Business and received my MBA in Marketing.

Whether I'm working for a nonprofit, a small business, or a global brand, my goal is the same. In driving an organization's growth, I'm helping my fellow employees build their careers. I'm helping to create new jobs. I'm helping to change the world through building awareness for new technologies, products, programs or innovations. The bottom line - I'm proud to work in a field that allows me to better this world and impact lives.

APPROACH

I approach my work (and my every day) with a “people first” mindset. Whether I’m building a marketing strategy or communications plan, I rely on empathy, observation, resourceful research and careful listening to create campaigns that directly speak to the true desires and motivations of the audience I’m engaging.

LEADERSHIP STYLE

Tipping my hat to Ben Franklin: "Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." I always take the time to teach, namely because I love to mentor and inspire young professionals coming up in their career. But I also find that if you slow down to lay a strong foundation with your team, you'll speed up productivity down the road when it counts most.

HOBBIES

I'm a self-appointed "fitness fanatic" and love to play soccer or go to boxing class. I also love theatre and have been a dancer my whole life. You'll often find me in Chicago's theatre district catching the latest lineup of musicals. I recently learned to tap dance - MUCH harder than it looks. I also very much enjoy traveling, whether I'm seeing a new city or sleeping on the ground under the stars.

HEROES

My family inspires me. My mom is one of the kindest humans on Earth. My dad is the greatest example of a hard worker. And my little brother is my best friend, always makes me laugh, and teaches me to keep balance in my life.

From a professional standpoint, I met John McDonough at my college graduation and had the pleasure of getting early career coaching from him. He is a marketing and PR force and he's taught me so much. He once told me, "Brittany... don't just be good. Be GREAT. Build a legacy." A simple phrase, but I've never forgotten his advice.

FAVORITE BOOKS

Some people "Netflix & chill." Well, I "Shakespeare & chill." There's nothing more relaxing than pouring myself a hot cup of coffee and curling up with "As You Like It" or "Macbeth." I'm also proud to declare myself an avid true crime and Harry Potter fan.

I also love reading new books to keep up my craft. Most recently, I've enjoyed "Dare to Lead" by Brené Brown, "Practical Content Strategy & Marketing" by Julia McCoy, "Building a Story Brand" by Donald Miller, and "The Power of Human Connection" by Kody Bateman.
